Company Profile and History
Superior Metal Products Company, Inc.
Birmingham, Alabama
Superior Metal Products Company, Inc. has served the needs of the
custom window
and door market since January 1978. Superior has combined manufacturing
and
reselling/distribution into a single-source point of purchase benefit
for the
custom fenestration product dealer. Purchasing and manufacturing
functions
are centralized in Superior's 108,000 square foot facility in
Birmingham, Alabama. Material, in both lineal and finished form, are
shipped
from Birmingham direct to customers across the United States.
In response to ever-evolving market conditions, Superior has developed
its
product offerings from the original storm window, door, and screen
products
to also include single glazed and insulated residential replacement
windows,
patio covers, carports, insulated roofs and enclosures, screen
enclosures, and sunrooms.
As product demand increased and many of our fabricating dealer's
resource
capabilities were taxed, Superior responded with the formation of Superior
Windows (a division), to supply fabricated windows and doors. By
reducing some of our dealer's fabrication burden, they have been able
to better focus on profitable sales and installation thereby growing
their business.
The 1984 addition of a Commercial Canopy Department marked
Superior's entry
into the sale of school, airport and institutional walkway covers and
canopies. The scope of commercial sales has spanned shipping just a
single canopy to a school project incorporating more than one and a
quarter acres of walkway cover material.
In 1995 Superior entered the vinyl window business and began
fabricating insulated double-hung tilt replacement windows, picture
windows and horizontal sliding windows offered in both white and beige
colors. In January 2002, Superior partnered with Vinyl Building
Products, Inc. (VBP) and introduced an all welded vinyl window series
replacing the original vinyl window product line that was
discontinued. Deceuninck Corporation, a Belgian conglomerate that
acquired Vinyl Building Products in the summer of 2004, continues to
supply vinyl extrusions to our window division.
In 1999 Superior developed and introduced its first insulated
sunroom/enclosure (Medallion Series) featuring a 2 Inch panelized wall
system incorporating an aluminum horizontal sliding window made with
tempered/insulated glass. Factory assembled wall panels have
reduced the installation time and allowed the dealer to increase his
installed sales to his customers.
In April 2001, Superior purchased the aluminum division of Perfection
Metal & Supply Company, Birmingham, Alabama. This acquisition
helped to increase Superior’s market share and dealer customer base in
the Southeast.
In July 2002, Superior purchased the assets of Ganton Supply Company, a
distributor of aluminum lineals and components located in Lithonia,
Georgia. This acquisition added to Superior’s dealer base in
Georgia and the Carolina’s.
In 2003 Superior became a Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Star
Partner (the energy star label has become the national symbol for
energy efficiency recognized by more than 40 percent of the American
public). Superior’s all welded vinyl window products are Energy
Star compliant. Also in 2003, Superior obtained District State
Architect (DSA) approval for the state of California to
market/promote/sell extruded aluminum walkway cover systems to all
California school districts.
In June 2004, Superior designed and introduced a 3 ¼ Inch
insulated panelized wall system called the “UltraView” Sunroom.
This sunroom is comprised of both aluminum and vinyl extrusions and has
been widely accepted as an exceptional sunroom by our dealer
base. In March of 2006 a tan color sunroom system was introduced
to compliment the white system.
In October 2005, Superior purchased the assets of a twenty-five year
old company competitor located in Tupelo, Mississippi known as Ace
Metal Products. Ace Metal was a distributor of aluminum lineals
and components for replacement and storm windows marketing in the
southeast.
In June of 2006, Superior purchased an eighteen year-old company
located in Pell City, Alabama known as Styro-Tek, Inc. Styro-Tek
is a custom laminator of expanded polystyrene (EPS) specializing in
insulated wall and roof panels used in residential and commercial
construction. The name was changed to Styro-Tek of Alabama and
the company operates as a division of Superior Metal.
Superior has developed each new product, product line and department in
accordance with its single-source philosophy of providing material,
tooling, training and customer service to cultivate a long-term viable
customer base.
